Title:
"The photonic route to fault-tolerant quantum computing, and how single atoms can drastically simplify it"

 

Abstract:
The photonic effort is one of the leading candidates for universal quantum computing. In particular, it is the only technology that has been originally designed to reach the massive scaling required for fault-tolerant universal quantum computation (> 10^6 physical qubits).

In my talk I will describe the photonic approach, which combines topological error correction and measurement-based quantum computation, and the leading effort in that direction (PsiQuantum), which relies on massive-scale silicon photonics.
I will then describe how cavity-QED with single atoms can drastically simplify this effort, solve its main bottleneck, and improve its scaling to even larger numbers of physical qubits.
