Title:
The free electron as a photon-wannabe
Abstract
Photonic technologies are everywhere having an unequivocal impact in fields such as microscopy, medicine, communication, and more. Nanoscale microscopy is one area in which the sub-relativistic free electron is advantageous, reaching resolutions well below the optical wavelength.
But what about other fields currently monopolized by optics? Can the electron do what photons can, possibly even better in some cases?
This talk discusses the prospect of using the physical properties of the electron to surpass (or realistically, complement) the photon’s capability for quantum sciences such as sensing and communication and control. From the basic concept of electron entanglement to current advancements, and the standing challenges.
